Activities of our Arizona AAUP

• Negotiated removal of 1/3 of Faculty Senate who were UA administrators
• Negotiated implementation of 5-year faculty reviews of Deans at the UA
• Negotiated implementation of 5-year faculty reviews of Dept. Heads at the UA
• Negotiated tax-sheltering of retirement contributions at Universities in Arizona
• Negotiated rule: terminated faculty to receive reasons in writing at the UA

• Increased circulation of Conference newpaper from 160 to 18,000,
  including distribution to all state legislators,
  members of higher education governing boards, etc.
• Activated chapters at 7 campuses (total of 1,120 members)
• Carried out faculty evaluation of President of UA
• Carried out faculty evaluation of 11 high administrators at UA
• Obtained agreement of elected faculty committee to continue regular faculty evaluations of administrators
• Helped negotiate new retirement option for faculty, allowing about 50% greater payout to retirees or their beneficiaries (Life Expectancy Option).

• Obtained passage of "Faculty Governance Law."
• Obtained passage, legislation to obtain indemnity health insurance option for university employees.
• Obtained Board of Regents' regulation (with status of law) providing for elected faculty member on the Board.

• Through our Member on the National Council, 1986-1989 Sponsored and
  had adopted policy on Senior Appointments with Reduced Load (1987)
• Through our Member on the ASC Executive Committee, 1990-1992 Initiated per capita grants policy
• Initiated "Faculty News of the States" program, whereby 20 state conference newspapers now have ad revenues, allowing distribution of Conference newpapers to 180,000 faculty members in those states.
